Fall Activity Guide for Alexandria

Looking for fun activities to do this fall? Here are a few you can do right in our community!

Seasonal Events:

Grape Stomp (September 17th-19th): Grape Stomp is an annual festival held at Carlos Creek Winery here in Alexandria. It is a three day festival consisting of tasty food, live music, fun shopping, and copious amounts of wine (& now beer with the pretty recent addition of 22 Northman Brewery!) They also hold an actual grape stomping competition that attendees can register a team for. This event is sure to keep you entertained! Friday and Saturday are reserved for 21+ so they are the perfect days for girl time and Sunday is open to the whole fam so everyone gets a chance to experience this fun time. Find more info on vendors, live entertainment, and purchase your tickets ahead of time here!

Oletoberfest (September 10-12th): This will be the 5th year of this annual event that’s held at Copper Trail Brewery. It’s located in downtown Alexandria and is free admission on Friday & Sunday. (Saturday is 21+ only and $10 admission which includes one beer!) Each day will offer food trucks, live music, & activities like axe throwing, bingo, & outdoor games. To check out the full list of daily events, find more info here.

Hiking:

Inspiration Peak: Rising up 1,750 feet high and one of the highest points in Minnesota, you are sure to get a scenic view here. It’s roughly a 30 minute drive from Alexandria and about a .5 mile hike. It's the perfect place to take in the fall colors that are starting to peak out! *Fun fact, Andy and I got engaged here!*
Carlos state park: We have spent many fall mornings here walking their trails. I like that they aren’t too strenuous and when you go early enough, you pretty much have the place to yourself. We have an active German Shepherd and he loves taking breaks along the way to swim in Lake Carlos! Pack a picnic and make a day out of this treasure we have so close to us! They also have horseback riding trails which I have never personally done but if you have the means, it sounds so fun. Hang Loose MN is a rental place right outside the park. They offer paddle board and kayak rentals and I have personally tried their paddle board rentals. They are great quality and their staff is very helpful and friendly. The options are open when visiting this state park!

Family Friendly:

Farmer’s Market (Every Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday): Held at Big Ole Park three days a week, there is an abundance of fresh fruits, veggies, meats, cheeses, and plants available for sale. Everything is locally grown and this is a great opportunity to support people in our community! The market is from 9am-12pm every Tuesday, 3pm-6pm every Thursday, & 9am-12pm every Saturday. The last market will be on October 30th so make sure to check it out before then!
Country Blossom Farms: A family activity everyone is sure to love, this place is PACKED with things to do. Country Blossom Farms offers a huge jumping pillow, 7 acre corn maze, weekend wagon rides, corn pit, a pedal cart track, and more. They have the most delicious bakery and gift shop complete with frozen take and bake meals as well. They have 12 kinds of apples available for purchase and picking! Find more info on their website and their Facebook page.

Date night:

The wineries & breweries in the area constantly have fun little events happening both on weekends and week days. Events include trivia, beer & food pairing, live music, vendor fairs, and more. Our favorite places to checkout are Copper Trail Brewery & Carlos Creek Winery in Alexandria and Rolling Forks Vineyards in Glenwood! All of their Facebook pages are linked to find info on their upcoming events!

Girl’s Day:

With the great downtown community that we have, there is no shortage of things to keep us busy with! There are various events to bring people to the downtown community including two events that close out the fall season with a bang. The first is Shoppers on the Hunt which is November 4-6. During this weekend you can expect fun winter styles out in shops & maybe even some sales or yummy treats throughout our downtown stores. It’s held the first weekend of hunting opener which for some women is the perfect opportunity to get out of the house with girlfriends while significant others are away. The next event is Small Business Saturday that is on November 27th every year. This is the perfect chance to support your local businesses and maybe even get a head start on some Christmas shopping! You might even see a popup event from yours truly somewhere downtown to celebrate our ONE year of being open!! Keep an eye out for more details on that ;)

With so many things to do right in our community, it’s no wonder why people are drawn to our town! This is just a few things Alexandria has to offer but a good place to start if you’re visiting here or currently living here wondering how to keep busy this upcoming season. Hopefully this quick guide puts a spark back into your love for our sweet little community!
